in this article you can learn about flash memory

Flash memory is an electronic non-volatile computer storage medium that can be electrically erased & reprogrammed. Introduce by Toshiba in 1984, Flash memory was developed from EEPROM.

Two logical technical thing use are:-

1) NAND Flash:-

NAND Flash reads & writes sequentially at high speed, handling data in small blocks called pages. This flash is used in solid-state & USB flash drives, digital cameras, audio & video players & TV set-top box. NAND flash reads faster than it writes quickly transferring whole pages of data.

2) NOR Flash:-

NOR Flash provides high-speed random access reading & writing data in the specific memory location, it can retrieve as little as single-byte NOR is used to store cell phones operating system its also used in computers for the BIOS program that runs at startup.

Applications of Flash Memory

  • USB Drives:-

Introduced in 2002, USB drives encapsulation flash with a memory controller in a small package offering high capacity, fast transfer rate, flexible & convenience.

  • Memory cards:-

Compact Flash cards introduced in 1994 through 2001 postage-stamp-size secure digital cards to the latest mini SD & microSD cards with higher capacities & faster transfer speeds at every step.

  • Solid-state drives(SSD):-

The newest flash memory application SSD can replace a computer’s hard drives. They have no moving parts so mechanical failure near zero. SSD is quieter & smaller than hard drive & they provide faster response, access & boot-up consume much less power & run cooler.
