Microchip Expands Radiation-Tolerant Gigabit Ethernet PHY Lineup with New VSC8574RTPHY Device
To simplify Ethernet deployments for aerospace and defense customers, Microchip Technology Inc. announced the launch of the new VSC8574RT PHY, further expanding its radiation-tolerant (RT) Ethernet PHY product lineup. The VSC8574RT PHY supports Serial Gigabit Media Independent Interface (SGMII) and Quad Serial Gigabit Media Independent Interface (QSGMII), which can reduce the total signal pin count in the design and reduce the space required by the host device.
The VSC8574RT PHY is compatible with both copper and fiber interfaces, providing more possible new application use cases. Although the current mainstream design still uses copper cables, as the industry's demand for data rates above 1 gigabit continues to grow, fiber optic interfaces are an inevitable trend for future aerospace applications.
The VSC8574RT PHY is equipped with a quad-lane port supporting 10, 100, and 1000BASE-T Ethernet connections for optimum speed and coverage based on device requirements. The high-reliability VSC8574RT PHY is rich in advanced features such as Synchronous Ethernet (SyncE) and IEEE® 1588v2 Precision Time Protocol (PTP), supporting network timing and synchronization for highly accurate timing applications.

Microchip's COTS-based Gigabit Ethernet PHY product family currently includes the new VSC8574RT, as well as the VSC8541RT and VSC8540RT.
