Samsung announces Exynos Auto V920 chip specifications: Xclipse GPU with integrated RDNA 2 architecture

Some time ago, Samsung launched the Exynos Auto V920 chip to replace the previous Exynos Auto V9 chip. This is Samsung's third-generation automotive chip for new in-vehicle infotainment systems. It plans to cooperate with Hyundai Motor for the first time to install the Exynos Auto V920 chip in the latter's new model in 2025.

Recently, Samsung announced the specifications of the Exynos Auto V920 chip, showing that the CPU part is a "2+4+4" three-plex architecture with 10 Cortex-A78EA cores; the GPU part uses the AMD RDNA 2 architecture Xclipse GPU; equipped with Dual-core NPU, which can provide 23.1 TOPS of AI and ML performance; integrates DSP for audio processing, and has three new-generation HiFi 5 cores. Samsung claims that compared with the previous generation, the CPU performance of the new chip has been improved by 70%, the GPU performance has been directly doubled, and the AI performance is 2.7 times that of the original.

The Exynos Auto V920 chip can drive up to six high-resolution screens, including the dashboard and entertainment screens for front and rear passengers, providing a full range of driving and entertainment experiences. In addition, it supports up to 12 cameras, which can recognize objects in the screen, provide intelligent and automatic driving functions, and have HDR functions, which can ensure that the assisted and automatic driving performance will not be affected even in poor light.

The Exynos Auto V920 chip will be manufactured using Samsung's 5nm process, and also supports LPDDR5 memory, UFS 3.1 storage, two 10Gbps 2x USXGMII / SGMII / RGMII Ethernet connections, and comprehensive 4K@240FPS video decoding and 4K@120FPS video encoding capabilities.
