Ubuntu Now Supports Running on AMD-Xilinx Versal Adaptive SoC Evaluation Kit

Lansheng Technology News on June 5th, Canonical announced that the Ubuntu Linux operating system now supports the AMD-Xilinx Versal AI core series VCK190 evaluation kit.

The Versal VCK190, AMD-Xilinx's first Versal AI Core Series evaluation kit, is designed to enable designers to develop solutions using AI and DSP engines that "deliver more than 100 times the computing performance".

AMD-Xilinx Versal AI Core Series VCK190 Evaluation Kit featuring the VC1902 Versal AI Core Series ACAP promises high-throughput AI inference and signal processing for cloud, edge, and networking applications.

The kit device features a dual-core Arm Cortex-A72 APU and a dual-core Arm Cortex-R5F RTPU, 400 AI engines, 1,968 DSP engines, and 1,968 system logic units (K).

The kit device is also equipped with PCIe Gen4 interface for high computing performance, DDR4 and LPDDR4 memory interface, HDMI port for video processing applications, SFP28 and QSFP28 optical interface, and RJ-45 Ethernet for network and FMC expansion port connector.

Ubuntu is now available on the AMD-Xilinx Versal AI Core Series VCK190 Evaluation Kit, and Canonical now offers an optimized Ubuntu Desktop 22.04 LTS (Jammy Jellyfish) image for the VCK190 Evaluation Kit (non-ES) model.

Canonical also marks these images as "Developer Preview", which means they are for evaluation and development purposes only, as there are some known issues. Canonical warns that the current Ubuntu Desktop 22.04 LTS image for the AMD-Xilinx Versal Adaptive SoC Evaluation Kit should not be used for production systems.
